Mr. Daniel Barrett was saved at a young age during Vacation Bible School at his childhood church, Friendship Baptist Church. He was baptized at Victory Baptist Church soon following, being the closest church nearby with a baptistery at the time. He has been faithfully devoted to the ministry of Christ working with children of all ages and backgrounds since becoming an adult.

Upon graduating high school, Mr. Barrett worked in the public school system serving as a baseball coach at Abingdon High School for seven years. He also served as a tutor at Virginia Highlands Community College for two years while earning an associate degree in education. He additionally served as a sports statistician during his time at Virginia Intermont College before quickly closing its’ doors. 

Mr. Barrett faithfully attended Friendship Baptist Church while serving in the ministry with his then fiancé, Ms. Jessica Overby. Together, they taught Junior Church, ran the Bus Ministry, coordinated fundraising for the Bill Rice Ranch, a Bible camp in Murfreesboro, TN, and directed the annual Christmas plays. 

After Mr. and Mrs. Barrett were married in 2013, they welcomed a beautiful little girl named Charlotte in March of 2015. While attending Liberty University Online, Mr. Barrett worked as a classroom aide in Kingsport City Schools. He also went on to become a Special Education Aide in Washington County Public Schools while graduating from Liberty University in 2018 with a BS in Elementary Education. Upon graduating, he was offered a teaching position at The Learning Center to a combined 5th and 6th grade class. 

In April of 2021, Mr. and Mrs. Barrett welcomed their precious little boy, Wyatt. After much prayer, they both decided that Mrs. Jess would resign from her position in Russell County to raise and spend time with their newborn son. 

After a short hiatus and juggling life changes, Mr. Barrett returned to The Learning Center in August of 2022 to teach high school history, word processing, and keyboarding. Mr. Barrett will be taking on dual roles as principal and teacher for his third year at TLC!
