Mrs. Jessica Barrett, otherwise known to her students and the people closest to her as Mrs. Jess, is the new administrator for the 2023 – 2024 school year! She was saved at the age of 10 during the week of VBS and baptized soon after at Nelson Baptist Church. Mrs. Jess graduated with honors and an advanced diploma from Bluestone High School in 2008. At the age of 19, Mrs. Jess rededicated her life to Christ and joined “Arise,” a praise and worship band, at Clarksville Baptist Church where she played guitar, sang, and worshipped the Lord every Sunday morning.

In March of 2010, she obtained a Pharmacy Technician Diploma from National College and became licensed as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT). Mrs. Jess began working full time as the sole pharmacy tech in Chase City, VA for Richard’s Pharmacy. She resigned from Richard’s Pharmacy and moved to Abingdon, VA shortly after her father’s passing in July of 2012.

Mrs. Jess faithfully attended Friendship Baptist Church and furthered her work in the ministry with her then fiancé, Mr. Daniel Barrett. Together, they taught Junior Church, ran the Bus Ministry, coordinated fundraising for the Bill Rice Ranch, a Bible camp in Murfreesboro, TN, and directed the annual Christmas plays.

After Mr. and Mrs. Barrett were married in 2013, they welcomed a beautiful little girl named Charlotte in March of 2015. Mrs. Jess followed the Lord’s will and went back to college to obtain a B.A. in Mathematics with a minor in education in May of 2018. Upon graduating, she worked as a high school math teacher for Russell County Public Schools at Honaker High School for the next three years. In April of 2021, Mr. and Mrs. Barrett welcomed their precious little boy, Wyatt. After much prayer, they both decided that Mrs. Jess would resign from her position in Russell County to raise and spend time with their newborn son.

In July of 2021, Mrs. Jess was contacted by The Learning Center and offered a position as a middle school teacher. She and her husband diligently prayed about the new position while wrangling their newborn son. Mrs. Jess accepted the position and began teaching middle school at TLC in August of 2021.

Soon after, Mrs. Jess began working towards a Master of Education as a Math Specialist. Unfortunately, she had to withdraw after completing a year of her studies due to familial illness. She hopes to continue her studies soon and obtain a Master of Education in Administration.

Fast forward to 2023, Mrs. Jess will be taking on dual roles as teacher and administrator for her third year at TLC and sixth year overall.
